SWOT Success Matrix — Find What Suits You Most
INTERACTIVE WORKSHEET

What Suits You the Most

Your personal SWOT Success Matrix — Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats — turned into a real action plan and one SMART goal.

Step 1 of 11
Step 1 · Before You Start

Why Career Selection Matters

Most people end up in one of three places. Which one you land in usually comes down to whether you actually knew yourself first.

SELECTION

A SWOT analysis — Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats — is how you move toward the third box on purpose instead of drifting into the first two. It's a planning tool, not a report card.

Step 2 · The Four Quadrants

What SWOT Actually Means

STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES OPPORTUNITIES THREATS POSITIVE ←•→ NEGATIVE INTERNAL ←•→ EXTERNAL
Internal vs. external, positive vs. negative
  • Strengths — what you're good at, that sets you apart from others.
  • Weaknesses — barriers that stop you performing at your best.
  • Opportunities — positive factors around you that could support your advancement.
  • Threats — outside elements that could potentially harm your advancement.
Step 3 · Setting the Frame

Before You Answer Anything

This isn't a performance review. It's a planning tool. A weakness isn't a character flaw — it's information about where effort or support would pay off.
Specificity beats flattery. "I'm good at math" is weaker than "I can hold a multi-step calculus problem in my head without losing track." Push for the second kind everywhere below.
Keep internal vs. external clean. Strengths/Weaknesses are about YOU. Opportunities/Threats are about your ENVIRONMENT (school, job market, family, timing). "No internships in my town" is a Threat, not a Weakness.
Two sittings beat one. People remember more strengths a day later, and are less defensive about weaknesses once the first ego-flinch passes. Consider coming back to this tomorrow before your final reflection.
STRENGTHS · INTERNAL, POSITIVE

What Comes Easily to You?

"What do you do that comes more easily to you than it seems to come to others?"

Skills — What can I do better than others?
Personal Qualities — What describes me?
Tip: don't only pick school-related items — hobbies, family roles, and part-time jobs often reveal real strengths first.
WEAKNESSES · INTERNAL, NEGATIVE

What Costs You More Energy Than It Should?

"What do you avoid doing, or do late, because it costs more energy than it should?"

Select up to 5 total — an unbounded list turns into rumination, not planning. (0/5 selected)

Skills That Need Improvement
Reframe

A weakness is often a strength taken too far — confidence → arrogance under pressure, thoroughness → missed deadlines. That's true, and less demoralizing.

OPPORTUNITIES · EXTERNAL, POSITIVE

What's Around You, Waiting to Be Used?

"What's happening around you right now that you could take advantage of, but probably won't unless you plan for it?"

Available Around You
Worth Exploring
THREATS · EXTERNAL, NEGATIVE

What's Outside Your Control?

"What's outside your control that could get in the way if you don't plan around it?"

Possible Threats
Keep It Honest

Threats should stay factual and external. "I might fail because I'm lazy" is a Weakness in disguise — that belongs back in Step 4, not here.
